(Paragraph 55 of Doha Mandate).

The mandate of Doha also requests UNCTAD to: “Continue to provide policy analysis and capacity-building on insurance regulatory frameworks and risk management for developing countries that are particularly vulnerable to catastrophic risks “. (Paragraph 56(t) of Doha Mandate)

In order to have the above mandate implemented, the above mandate, UNCTAD Insurance Programme aims to assist developing countries and countries with economies in transition to have their insurance capacity upgraded, establish well regulated and competitive insurance markets and to have their insurance human resources capacity improved.

The Young Insurance Professionals Programme (YIPP) is one of several ways Africa Re fulfils one of its missions to foster the development of the insurance and reinsurance industry in Africa.

The objective of this annual online training programme is to offer brilliant graduates the possibility of accelerated career development thereby contributing to the progress of the African insurance and reinsurance sector.

The insurance programme is a starting point for an exciting career in the industry. Candidates who are successful for the Young Professionals Programme will undergo a training programme on a yearly basis with a “stretch/learning assignment” built in, where valuable on-the- job experience will be gained.

A career will be built by the YIPP trainee by acquiring knowledge and competencies through a unique mix of on-the-job experience and a dedicated online training programme in insurance, reinsurance, management and leadership.

All About Young Insurance Professionals Programme  (YIPP) 

The African Reinsurance Corporation, having its headquarters in Lagos, Nigeria is an International Financial Institution with full diplomatic status.

It was established in February 1976 by Member States of the now African Union (AU), formerly Organistion of African Unity (OAU). The African Reinsurance Corporation (Africa Re) is the leading reinsurance company in Africa.

Young Insurance Professionals Programme  (YIPP) Benefits

The top ten young  professionals who are successful in the completion of the YIPP programme wull receive sponsorship from

Africa Re to one of the major insurance/reinsurance events in Africa (AIO, FANAF); a certificate of completion issued by Africa Re and the London School of Insurance; and accelerated career development in the industry.

Young Insurance Professionals Programme Eligibility

To be eligible for this insurance programme, applicants must be citizens of a member state of Africa Re and the maximum age required of applicants is 32 years.

Furthermore, a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent and relevant work experience in an insurance or reinsurance company, insurance broking firm or other related field is required.

In addition to the eligibility requirements listed already,  access to the internet and excellent writing  and oral communication skills in English and/or French is required.

Young Insurance Professionals Programme (YIPP) Application

Submission of an online application between May 7 and June 6, 2018 by interested candidates is requested to submit.

Applicants are to log on to http://younginsurancepro.com and click on “Register” to fill in the application form.

After the deadline, applications received will not be considered. Applicants are to upload their curriculum vitae, cover letter and reference forms. If deemed necessary, an interview may be part of the assessment process.

After the application process, successful applicants will be contacted by email before 30 June 2018 and must be available for the programme commencement in July 2018. There are various modules for this insurance programme and must be taken by any candidate who does not participate in any of the modules will be excluded from the programme.
