The University of Newcastle is offering Ma & Morley Scholarships to new and continuing students who will begin their undergraduate degree in 2019. These scholarships are available to citizens of Australia.

The Ma & Morley Scholarship Program application process is designed so that a diversity of students has a fair opportunity to access this life-changing experience.

• Course Level: Scholarships are available to pursue Undergraduate degree programme.
• Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded to study the following courses:
• Faculty of Business and Law
• Faculty of Education and Arts
• Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment
• Faculty of Health and Medicine
• Faculty of Science
• Scholarship Award: Scholarship is valued in the following manner:

NEW STUDENTS:

Category: Academic Excellence – The scholarship currently provides a benefit of $10,000 per annum payable in lump sum payments of $5,000 each semester after the census date (pro-rata for students studying 30 or 20 units).
Category: Indigenous – The scholarship currently provides a benefit of $10,000 per annum payable in lump sum payments of $5,000 each semester after the census date (pro-rata for students studying 30 or 20 units).
Category: Educational Disadvantage – The scholarship currently provides a benefit of $15,000 per annum payable in lump sum payments of $7,500 each semester after the census date (pro-rata for students studying 30 or 20 units).

CONTINUING STUDENTS:
A global immersion experience including flights, accommodation and tours expenses covered.

• Nationality: These scholarships are available to citizens of Australia.
• Number of Scholarships: There are a total of 20 scholarships available for new students and 10 immersion experiences available for continuing students per year under the Ma & Morley Scholarship Program.

NEW STUDENTS:

Category: Academic Excellence – To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:
• Be an Australian Citizen Australian permanent resident or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa
• Commencing the first year of study in any University of Newcastle undergraduate program in Semester 1, 2019
• Enrol in a minimum of 20 units
• Demonstrate academic achievement by achieving a selection rank (adjusted ATAR) of 90 or above OR demonstrate academic achievement by achieving an Admissions Rank (ATAR equivalent) in top 10% of commencing cohort if coming from an enabling pathway
• Provide required documentation
• Have leadership aspirations
• Demonstrated commitment to one or more Ma and Morley values.
• Not be the recipient of another UON Donor funded or sponsored the scholarship
• Not have completed another degree.
• 3 of the 6 scholarships available in this category will be awarded to students who have completed a UON enabling pathway like Newstep, Yapug and Open Foundation (or are set to complete in 2018)

Category: Indigenous – To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:
• Be an Australian Citizen Australian permanent resident or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa
• Commencing the first year of study in any University of Newcastle undergraduate program in Semester 1, 2019
• Enrol in a minimum of 20 units
• Identify as an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and be recognised as such within your community
• Provide required documentation
• Have leadership aspirations
• Demonstrated commitment to one or more Ma & Morley values
• Not be the recipient of another UON Donor funded or sponsored the scholarship
• Not have completed another degree
• 3 of the 6 scholarships available in this category will be awarded to students who have completed a UON enabling pathway like Newstep, Yapug and Open Foundation (or are set to complete in 2018)

Category: Educational Disadvantage – To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:
• Be an Australian Citizen Australian permanent resident or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa
• Commencing the first year of study in any University of Newcastle undergraduate program in Semester 1, 2019
• Enrol in a minimum of 20 units.
• Demonstrate meeting Government educational disadvantage criteria (Carer responsibilities, sole parent responsibilities, financial hardship, Indigenous Australian, long-term medical condition/disability or ongoing effects of abuse, Refugee status, Regional or remote disadvantage*)
• Provide required documentation
• Have leadership aspirations
• Demonstrated commitment to one or more Ma & Morley values.
• Not be the recipient of another UON Donor funded or sponsored the scholarship
• Not have completed another degree
• 4 of the 8 scholarships available in this category will be awarded to students who have completed a UON enabling pathway like Newstep, Yapug and Open Foundation (or are set to complete in 2018).

CONTINUING STUDENTS:
• To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:
• Be an Australian Citizen Australian permanent resident or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa
• Be enrolled (minimum of 20 units) in an undergraduate program with the University of Newcastle at an Australian Campus
• Have completed a minimum of 80 units
• Have leadership aspirations
• Demonstrated commitment to one or more Ma and Morley values.
• Not be the recipient of another UON Donor funded or sponsored the scholarship
• Not have completed another degree.

How to Apply: If documentation is not provided with your application will not be processed. Please have all required documents available for upload as PDF, DOC, DOCX, JPEG, or JPG files prior to completing the online application process.
• A written personal reference from a responsible person. This person cannot be your relative but can include a, higher education or VET educator, employer/manager/supervisor, doctor, specialist medical professional, lawyer, accountant, social worker, counsellor, religious or community leader, high school or college principal, counsellor, year advisor or career advisor
• One page written statement outlining: (1) what a globally aware and socially conscious leader means to you; and (2) things you have done in your home, school, work, or community that contribute to creating positive change in the world.
• Confirmation of Aboriginality (Common Seal) and a written reference made by an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community member who knows you in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
• A 300-400 short statement on what it would mean to you to represent your Indigenous Community as a Ma & Morley Scholar.
• Provide copies of any documentary evidence supporting your claim that you are facing circumstances that may impact your study. For example; Centrelink income statement, health care card, registration with disability service, evidence of address in a remote area etc, medical certificate;
• A letter from a responsible person to verify your circumstances and support your personal character to be a Ma & Morley Scholarship Program scholar. This person cannot be your relative but can include a, higher education or VET educator, employer/manager/supervisor, doctor, specialist medical professional, lawyer, accountant, social worker, counsellor, religious or community leader, high school or college principal, counsellor, year advisor or career advisor
