I will be listing and discussing in detail the different Scholarships for people with Glasses. Emphasis will be made on the eligibility, requirements, and financial aid for each of the Scholarships. They are as follows;

1.       Visine Students with Vision Scholarship

This scholarship for people with Glasses is the first on our list, and it is a little bit different from the other scholarships because it is more of a grant than a scholarship.

The applicants that are awarded this scholarship are given a $5000 grant to pursue any degree of their choice.

2.       The Arthur E. and Helen Copeland Scholarships

The Arthur E. and Helen Copeland Scholarships are awarded annually to one male (Arthur E. Copeland Scholarship) and one female (Helen Copeland Scholarship) in the amount of $500 each. Applicant must be a current USABA member.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be an undergraduate student
  • Must attend a university, a four-year college, a two-year college, or a vocational-tech school
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Restricted to applicants that have visual disabilities

3.       The Carl Graduate Scholarship Program

This scholarship opportunity provides financial aid to students with visual impairments that use glasses

The Carl del Signore Foundation Graduate Scholarships provides $1,500 scholarships to support graduate students who are engaged in research activities leading to a research-focused master’s degree.

Students who wish to apply for this scholarship must meet the following requirements:

  • Enrolled in an on-campus, research-focused master’s program (i.e. must complete a master’s thesis)
  • Master’s thesis proposal must be approved by October 14, 2022
  • Enrolled in at least 1 credit hour during the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 terms
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.7

4.       The Christian Record Service Scholarship

This scholarship opportunity is available for people with glasses and is offered to legally blind young people striving to obtain a college education.

The award amount Christian Record Services for the Blind gives for scholarships varies from year to year.

Requirements

  • Legal blindness ( the clinical diagnosis refers to a central visual acuity of 20/200 or less in the better eye with the best possible correction, and/or a visual field of 20 degrees or less)
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Currently registered as a full-time student in undergraduate studies.
  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA
  • Attending an accredited college or university in the U.S.

For Consideration, Applicants Must Provide;

  • Complete online application
  • Upload financial budget for student
  • Upload doctor’s note of legal blindness dated in the last year
  • A written essay that includes: background, achievements, educational goals, and life goals
  • Recent photo
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation dated in the last six months (non-family members only).  Examples of acceptable letters include paraeducator, guidance counselor, teacher, principal, or pastor.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship (Required if you are awarded a scholarship)

5.       Kenneth Jernigan Scholarship

This scholarship is offered by the American Action Fund for Blind Children and Adults. Valued at $12,000, the Kenneth Jernigan Scholarship is the largest scholarship granted in the United States to a legally blind person.* It is given annually to a legally blind student who exemplifies the fruits of Dr. Jernigan’s teachings.

6.       Delta Gamma Foundation Florence Margaret Harvey Memoria

This scholarship is offered by, The American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) and the American Council of the Blind (ACB) who have partnered together to offer educational scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $7,500 for those attending a technical college or attending university as an entering freshman, undergraduate, or graduate student.

This program awards students with scholarships to help with post-secondary education financial needs such as tuition, fees, room and board, and other additional costs associated with adaptive technology.

To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants need to be legally blind, maintain a 3.0 GPA to be eligible for most scholarships, be a full-time student (as well as students who work 32 or more hours per week and attend college part-time), and be involved in their school/local community.

7.       Rudolph Dillman Memorial Scholarship

The Rudolph Dillman Memorial Scholarship is a one-time award not open to previous recipients. It provides four (4) scholarships of $2,500 each to undergraduate or graduate students who are studying in the field of rehabilitation and/or education of persons who are blind or visually impaired. One of these grants is specifically for a student who meets all requirements and submits evidence of the economic need.

8.       The Council of Citizens with Low Vision Scholarships

This is an advocacy membership organization, whose aim is;

  • To establish the right of persons with low vision to make full use of their vision through all available aids, services, and technology.
  • To provide a mechanism through which low vision people can express their individual needs, interests, and preferences.
  • To educate the general public, professionals, and low-vision people themselves as to the potentialities, capabilities, and needs of low-vision people.
  • To establish outreach programs to insure that all individuals with low vision have access to necessary services.
  • To promote research to prevent blindness, improve maximum utilization of sight, and improve environmental conditions and access for low vision people.

CCLVI also provides opportunities to individuals with low vision, such as:

  • The Fred Scheigert Scholarship Program:

Awarding three (3) students an individual prize of $3,000. This competitive scholarship is available to full-time college students with low vision, chosen from among those who meet the visual acuity and academic guidelines.

  • Dr. Samuel Genensky Video Magnifier Award:

The Dr. Sam Genensky Memorial Video Magnifier award is in tribute to the inventor of CCTV. This award provides multiple video magnifiers of varying brands and styles to students and adults demonstrating a need.

9.       National Federation of the Blind (NFB) Scholarships

The National Federation of the Blind’s annual scholarship program is the largest of its kind in the nation. Every year, we award more than $250,000 in cash and prizes to blind scholars across the fifty states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico in recognition of their achievements and professional aspirations.

The following requirements apply to all applicants:

  • Must be legally blind (PDF) in both eyes.
  • Must be residing in the United States, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico.
  • Must be 18 years of age by July 1, 2023.
  • Must be pursuing or planning to pursue a full-time, post-secondary course of study in a degree program at a U.S. institution in the fall of the year of application (one scholarship may be given to a person employed full-time while attending school part-time).
  • Must participate in person in the entire NFB National Convention and in all of its scheduled scholarship program activities (finalists will receive assistance to attend the national convention).
