  • AEGD Program at The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston
  • AEGD Program at UT Health San Antonio, School of Dentistry

The Texas A&M University School of Dentistry accredited by the Commission on Dental Education offers the AEGD Program. The AEGD Residency is a one-year training program providing professional education at a post-doctoral level. The program trainings are divided into two phases; Clinical Training and Didactic Training

The clinical phase of the AEGD program consists of experience and instruction in the following areas: endodontics, periodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, operative, fixed and removable prosthodontics, implants (surgical placement and restoration), pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, and special care patients.

The didactic phase is scheduled on a regular basis and includes lectures, seminars, literature reviews, treatment planning conferences, clinical pathological conferences, and special projects. Examples of special projects may include table clinics and the preparation of a professional lecture

2.       AEGD Program at the University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston

The Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) Program is a one-year, broad-based clinical and didactic experience in comprehensive general dentistry. The program currently accepts seven residents per year. Each resident spends 12 months in the AEGD clinic, a modern well-equipped area with 13 operatories shared with the General Practice Residency (GPR) program. Residents work directly with chairside assistants, dental hygienists, insurance specialists, and secretaries/receptionists. The facilities and staff support all clinical, educational, and research activities of the program.

Clinical and didactic instruction covers a wide range of dental disciplines, emphasizing comprehensive care, practice management, and care for dentally complex patients. The program is considered a group practice where, in addition to continuing education, residents are expected to meet modest production goals to help them transition to private practice. The resident may pursue special interests in dentistry, such as specific clinical disciplines and additional research during the year.
