If you want to study in Canada this year or next, you should probably be in search of Canadian schools offering your course of choice at an affordable tuition rate. This is the first step to getting admission into your school and course of choice in Canada.
While you are on this search, you should take note that it is only universities considered as designated learning institutes(DLI) in Canada that can give you admission and you will be able to obtain a student VISA. If you apply to a non-designated learning institute, even though they admit you, you won’t be able to move to Canada.
Earlier, we made a list of top designated learning institutes in Canada which anyway featured only some of the universities in this category. As it is, all primary and secondary schools (high schools) in Canada are marked as designated learning institutes but not all universities.
We also made a list of some of the cheapest universities in Canada that are designated institutes that you should check out to see if they have what you want.
Another thing you should be sure of when applying to universities in Canada is that you are not applying to a fake school or an unaccredited Canadian school. There are some fake universities that Canadian authorities have advised students against and we made a list featuring all of them. Click here to check list.
You should also know that Canadian schools will require that you provide proof of English language proficiency like the IELTS. This is necessary because the school wants to ascertain if you can cope with English well enough to flow with other students. If you barely know about IELTS, you can find out all the benefits of the IELTS here.
However, if you have received formal education in English in your country, there are some schools that can offer you IELTS exemption.
If your school of choice doesn’t offer IELTS exemption, you can take this free IELTS online course by the University of Queensland to help yourself.
However, if your problem is a low IELTS score, you should know there are Canadian universities accepting IELTS scores of as low as band 6.
If all of these are in place getting a Canadian student visa may be one of the things that may take some time again. However, we have written a comprehensive article on how you can apply for a Canadian student visa.
