The Selection Process for the Trudeau Foundation Scholarship
- Applications are only done through your host university internal selection process via the foundation’s application portal.
- Host universities may decide to nominate candidates from their school as well and if you are nominated by your school, your application will be forwarded to the PETF to undergo a rigorous review process.
- Finalists in the competition will be invited to be interviewed by the selection committee at a given date which will be sent to you through your mail.
- 20 or more scholars are usually selected as winners yearly.

- Learn about your host institution’s internal selection process deadlines: As I mentioned earlier, the Trudeau Foundation scholarship is spread amongst various Canadian institutions thus they all have different deadlines, so learn about your university deadline and begin an early application.
- Registration: When the competition starts, register for an account on the foundation’s application portal. After 4 business days of registering the account, you will receive an email with your username and password. If you do not see it by then, you can check your spam folder and can also contact the foundation if not still found.
However, if you have an existing account from a previous scholarship competition, you can still log in using your existing credentials or request for a password reset.
- Fill out the application: Once you are logged in, you can apply by completing the application form in the “Draft” section of the portal and fill out your correct contact information in the “Contacts” section of the portal.
- Get recommendation letters: You will be asked to enter the name and email address of your two referees in the provided box while filling out the application form. An email will then be sent to both referees asking them to upload their reference letter in PDF format directly to the foundation portal. Let your references know about this and ensure they submit in time.
- Upload transcripts: You will upload a single PDF document transcript covering all of your post-secondary education.

- University nominations: Universities too can nominate up to four candidates for the Trudeau Foundation scholarship while foreign universities can nominate only three candidates. The names of each candidate are to be submitted to the foundation which will then send an acknowledgment to those applicants who have been nominated by a university.
- Trudeau foundation scholarship selection process: All candidates who have been nominated by a university will go through a rigorous selection process, finalists will then be invited for an interview. The date of this interview is usually not made known to the general public.
