One of the interesting things about studying law in Ghana is that you have a lot of options to choose from when you have graduated, especially when you have done your master’s. There is also a good salary to start with, you can be paid GH₵3,000 as your median salary.
Another interesting thing is that almost everybody, if not everyone, needs a lawyer, whether it’s at home, in a company, at the hospital, or in government.
Picture yourself defending a murder case for a 21-year-old man, picture when you win that case, and also picture the tears of joy that flows from his mum. That is one of the things becoming a lawyer can do for you, you can give hope to a loving father, to a company, etc.
But, for you to comfortably do this, you have to be on your best game, you don’t just need to go to these law schools in Ghana to just have fun, you need to work it out. You need to take your academics seriously, you need to study whether through lots of free online libraries for lawyers or through online law courses.
Ghana runs two kinds of Bachelor of Laws (LLB), one is a 3-year program, and the second is a 4-year program. You’ll see more of these as we progress in this article.
Requirements for law schools in Ghana
Ghana offers both LLB (Bachelor of Laws) and LLM (Master of Laws), and we’ll list the requirements for each of these. Here are the requirements for a bachelor’s degree program;
- You must pass your WASSCE and SSSCE, at least C6 in English, Math, and Integrated Science.
- Submission of official academic Transcript from your secondary school
- Submission of Bachelor’s degree official transcript (if you’ve done any degree program outside the law), from an accredited school.
- Might require a personal essay of yourself.
For a professional law degree, here are the requirements;
- You must pass the entrance exam
- Must complete your LLB (Bachelor of Laws) from an accredited college
Cost of law school in Ghana
The cost of studying law in Ghana is not really so high, the average fee you will need to pay in these schools is GH₵5,039 ($626.62) per year. And as the year progresses, the fee will even be reduced.

1. Ghana School of Law
This is one of the best law schools in Ghana (if not the best) that seeks to ensure their students are legally educated. The school was established in 1958 by the first president in Ghana, and since then, they have been leading in the sub-region. This Law school offers several majors and lots of other core courses like;

This law school in Ghana will also give you the privilege to choose from one of their elective courses. Which can even boost your degree, and these electives can be under technical legal courses, or under development and society. Their degree will touch so many areas (outside the law), which includes the government, culture, history, and society.
Through your education, you will master the art of public speaking, you will be bolder, and be able to make a series of presentations. Shockingly, regardless of their worthy reputation, you won’t realize that the school was just established in Ghana, in 2014, and has enrolled 160 students.
The school will even go further to engage you in different kinds of trips, which includes going to the High Court, visiting Prisons, and so many other trips. The school offers a 3-year degree program.
