A vocational school also known as a trade school, or technical school is a type of educational institution, designed to provide vocational education or technical skills required to complete the tasks of a particular and specific job.
Simply put, it is a school in which people learn how to do a job that requires special skills. Some of these skills to be learned are welding, working as an artisan, carpenter, mason, electrician, hair stylist, fashion designer, makeup artist, and other trades and crafts.
Apart from vocational schools, Finland also houses lots of very good schools such as medical schools for students interested in becoming good medical practitioners. 1. Omnia Vocational College
This is the first one on the list of vocational schools in Finland in English. The school offers a variety of vocational training programs which are all taught in English. These programs range from business-related to catering services to software development, cleaning and property services, and practical nursing care for the young and old.
2. Business College Helsinki
Business College Helsinki has long experience and a good reputation as an expert and developer of high-quality vocational education. The school specializes in business as well as information and communication technology. They are the largest single Finnish college in these fields and they offer their students great opportunities for specialization.
About 2800 students study in their college in Pasila. The school offers Vocational Qualifications in Business and Full Stack Web Developer Program – React and Node in Information Communication technology. These two programs are also taught in English.
3. Turku Vocational Institute (TAI), Peltola campus
Turku Vocational Institute – TAI among friends – is a multi-disciplinary provider of upper secondary level vocational education and training. With over 10 000 annual students and a turnover of 48 million euros, it is the largest VET training center in South-Western Finland and one of the largest in the country.
TAI is a public vocational school maintained by the City of Turku since 1998. We operate in six campuses within the city offering training in 28 basic vocational qualifications and 35 further and specialist vocational qualifications in the fields of:
- Technology, communication, and transport
- Social Services, Health, and Sports
- Tourism, Catering, and Domestic Services
- Business and Administration.
TAI operates in six different locations within the City of Turku. All our campuses are easy to reach by public transportation from the city center.
4. Tampere Region Vocational College Tredu, Santalahdentie agency
Tampere Vocational College Tredu is the most popular secondary-level college in the Pirkanmaa region. With 14 campuses in the area, 1100 employees, and operating under the City of Tampere, they are proud to be the second largest vocational college in Finland.
Every year, approximately 17 000 young and adult students study at Tredu. Our campuses are located all around the Tampere city area, as well as in the surrounding municipalities of Nokia, Virrat, Ylöjärvi, Kangasala, Lempäälä, and Orivesi. We are happy to offer their students multiple study locations within this lively region – and additionally all over Finland!
At Tampere Vocational College Tredu, we offer flexible and individual study paths to a Basic Vocational Qualification, Further Qualification, and Specialist Qualification – within almost any vocational field in Finland and always with close cooperation with working life. We also provide services for immigrants.
Although most of our courses are taught in Finnish, they also have excellent English Degree Programs for you to choose from.
5. Suupohja kolutuskuntayhtymä Vuoksi
Suupohja kolutuskuntayhtymä Vuoksi provides and develops versatile and high-quality vocational qualifications to promote the well-being of the society, region, and people in close cooperation with employers and their establishments.
As a regional vocational upper secondary education provider, we have a mission to provide the knowledge and the skills that meet the needs of the working life and future. They built with their students flexible learning environments and individual study paths for the motivation of their students and through them the key to successful learning
Vocational Qualifications in study fields such as agriculture, business and administration, forestry, construction, catering, machinery, media and visual expression, hairdressing, electrical engineering, metal industry, software development, cleaning and property services, animal care, and horticulture; altogether 13 study programs, all Accredited by the Finnish National Agency for Education.
Furthermore, one can choose to study for a double degree, which means that one will have a vocational qualification degree and a baccalaureate. Instruction is given in Finnish, and in the case of foreign students in English at the beginning of their studies
6. Perho Culinary, Tourism & Business College
Perho Culinary, Tourism & Business College’s roots are in two private-sector educational institutions – one founded in 1935, and the other in 1944. They are a pioneer in their field, striving to inspire students, with a strong focus on customer service and responsible operations. Perho Culinary, Tourism & Business College is a quality awarded vocational educator in Helsinki Töölö and Malmi, and online.
They are also a national sports college. One of their campuses is the National Olympic Training Center Urhea. They operate on three campuses: Töölö, Malmi, and online, and the national Olympic training center Urhea, with approximately 1,600 students and approximately 170 employees. Some of their studies are taught in English, one of which is their English-taught studies in Restaurant and Catering Services. The other program they teach in English is their English-taught studies in Tourism Industry.
